ABOUT THE OWNER…
Candice Meeks opened The Craft Cafe Detroit in June 2015 at 14600 Mack Avenue. She was awarded a mural from Quicken Loans/RunXDetroit in 2017 and it can be found on the side of the 14600 Mack building, in the Mack/Alter Square. It is a beautiful mural of a black woman that says, “Let’s Create Something Beautiful,” created by the talented Michelle Tanguay. She purchased her new building at 15641 E. Warren, Detroit, MI 48224 in October 2018. She won Best Eastside Small Business in October 2017 and Best Eastside Fun Spot in September 2018, awarded by The Eastside Community Network. She is a Motor City Match awardee, graduate of the ProsperUS program and the New Economy Initiative Small Business Program. She is rated as a Five Star Business on Google and her business Facebook page. Her main goal is to provide exceptional customer service and memorable events at The Craft Cafe Detroit!
She is a graduate from Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School in 2003, received her bachelors of Integrated Studies in Human Resources, Communication, and Business from Oakland University in 2008, and her Masters of Science Administration in Human Resources in 2011 from Central Michigan University. She left her career as an Employment Specialist with the Wayne County Mental Health Court in June 2018, because of health reasons, to pursue her full time dedication to The Craft Cafe Detroit.
She is a dedicated member to the Morningside and East English Village communities and has a passion for supporting and motivating future business owners to go after their dreams. She has facilitated business resource fairs at her location and puts on monthly sip and shops for other small business owners to showcase their products and services.
”The best thing I ever did was take a chance and invest in my dreams. I took an idea and created a successful business in the neighborhood I grew up in and provided a safe place for families and friends to bond and have a good time!” – Candice Meeks
